Acne commonly called as pimples, a frequent problem seen in teenagers, now also seen in women at thirties, is a disease of the skin. The word acne is derived from the greek word “akne” meaning prime of life.

Many different forms of acne are seen. They usually start with comedones- the black and white commonly called as the black heads (open comedones) and the white heads (closed comedones) respectively.

These acne are usually located on face, more on the T-Zone (forehead and the nose with chin), which has the highest number of sebaceous glands and over the back, chest extending onto upper arms.

1. Keep your face clean.

Whether or not you have acne, it’s important to wash your face daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and excess oil from the skin surface. Using a harsh soap or cleanser can injure the already inflamed skin and cause more irritation.Avoid scrubbing your skin when you have acne.La Roche-Posay Recommendation

2. Moisturize.

Oily skin also requires a moisturiser. Many topical acne products contain ingredients that dry the skin, so always use a moisturiser that hydrates and the same time controls the sebum also.La Roche-Posay Recommendation

3. Use Product with Active Ingredients.

Anti-acne care products should have active elements which work on the sebum production and also has anti-bacterial action. The texture should be hydrating and prevent shine.La Roche-Posay Recommendation

4. Use makeup sparingly.

During a breakout, try to avoid wearing foundation, powder or blush. If you do wear makeup, wash it off at the end of the day. If possible, select oil-free cosmetics without added dyes
and chemicals. Read the ingredients list on the product label before buying, insure you use non comedogenic products.
